Large trials are expensive. Many study results are therefore based on rather small samples.

A meta-analysis can overcome this shortcoming and obtain meaningful results. It is about collecting existing data and review the complete information.

The purpose of a meta-analyse is to provide an overview about a particular question, and point out effects and trends.
